RECORDING<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We prefer to execute the entire process, from recording to mix (and sometimes master) ourselves. In this way, we can control the process and ensure that everything is executed with high standard. We do, however, mix and master external projects as well. It is, of course, also possible to record specific parts of your project and continue working on it at another studio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MIX<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When mixing we have several options. If your material has been recorded to tape we can either mix it straight off from tape, or first convert it do digital and then send it out to our analog mixing console, or just simply keep it in the DAW. A digital recording can, just as an analog recording, be mixed either completely \u201din the box\u201d or be sent out to our analog console for mixdown. Finally the mix can either be stored digital or onto analog tape.

In other-words there are several options but if there aren\u2019t any specific specifications then we usually choose the option that we think suits the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MASTERING<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We can also master external projects in our sonically treated control room. We can either master digital projects or master from analog tape (see \u201dAnalog transfers\u201d below what formats we can offer). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

ALL ANALOG PROJECTS <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Since we just love working with analog tape here at MMR it is also possible to do an all analog project. If you wish, we can, through our own knowledge and contacts, keep your work from the digital domain all together. Recordings can be made to multitrack machines, mixed down to 2 track analog master. Thereafter we can have it sent to a engineer that can cut lacquers, ( which is the first step when producing vinyl records ), without using the digital AD\/DA preview which otherwise is very common. That way you can get your music all the way to vinyl \u201dthe old way\u201d without the ones and zeros, which nowadays is a pretty cool experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ANALOG “COLORING”<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Analog tape and outboard can be both very transparent or \u201dcoloring\u201d depending on how you use it. A lot of customers ( including ourselves ) appreciate the artifacts that comes when for example pushing an analog tape into some saturation or the 3D-experience that you can get when routing your digital audio files out from your DAW and then through our analog mixing console and outboards. Then difference can be both pristine and subtle or heavy squashed and distorted.

Therefore do we also offer DA\/AD transfers through our equipment. Which equipment we use and how much \u201dtweaking\u201d you want us to do can be agreed on in accordance to what suits the project and budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ANALOG TRANSFERS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We can do transfers from analog tape into the digital domain. The analog signal is then being sent straight to our high-end Antelope converters in a sample rate up to 24bit 192khz and usually stored in aiff or wave format.

At the moment we can support the following formats and speeds:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2 track 1\/4\u201d tape, 30 – 15 – 7.5 \u2013 3,75 ips ( 76.2 – 38.1 – 19.05 \u2013 9,5 cm\/sec )
2 track 1\/2\u201d tape, 30 or 15 ips
8 track 1\u201d tape, 15 – 7,5 ips\u00a0
24 track 2″ tape, 7,5 – 15 – 30 ips<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note. A lot of old tape is suffering from what many call SSS ( Sticky shed syndrome ) which makes it impossible to play the tape without having the tape baked before play back. And, yes, you do actually put the tape in an oven! However we do not recommend doing that yourself but instead having a professional, with the right equipment and experience, taking care of it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

PODCASTS\/RADIO COMMERCIALS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We have the possibilities to record your pod\/radio commercial etc. either in absolute silence in an acoustically dry environment or at our lounge in a more relaxed environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EDUCATION\/LECTURES <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Through the last couple of years, the educational part of MMR has grown. We have provided appreciated lectures on different parts of recording practices from the art of recording through microphone technics, mastering, loudness wars, and more. For more info, check this<\/a> brochure (in Swedish).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ACOUSTICS\/BUILDING STUDIOS <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We can assist in building recording studios and have done so for schools and smaller recording studios. In addition, we can be of service when it comes to acoustic improvement in existing project studios \/ home theaters etc. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
